At The Lazarus Project, we provide therapeutic support to children with autism and the families who care for them.

Founded in 2003 by parents of children with autism, our goal is to improve the language, learning and life skills of each individual child entrusted to our care.

Through early intervention and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, The Lazarus Project helps children replace maladaptive behavioral patterns with effective communication skills that last a lifetime. We passionately believe that children with autism deserve the very best instruction -- from therapists who love what they do. At The Lazarus Project, we provide high-quality therapy in an organized and nurturing environment.

 Who We Serve
The Lazarus Project serves children who have been diagnosed with autism. Parents are encouraged to enroll children prior to the age of five, and we are able to assist children as young as 15 months. Services for each child typically continue for 2-3 years, with most children achieving maximum benefit between the ages of eight and ten.

Our Methodology
The Lazarus Project uses The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills Revised (ABLLS-R) (Sundberg and Partington, 2006) to determine what skills a child has already developed as well as those that require continued development. The ABLLS-R is used to guide treatment planning and measure skill acquisition by targeting 544 individual skills within 25 areas of instruction that are broken down in to 1, 2, 3 and 4 degrees (or levels) of competency/mastery. We focus on, but are not limited to, sections A through I which consist of basic language and learner-readiness areas that are most appropriate for instruction in the behavior therapy modality. These are skills which a neurologically-typical child would acquire by about the age of four or five.

Hours of Service
Clients participate in in-center services 4.25 hours a day (in either morning or afternoon sessions) or full days, 5 days a week, year-round. We also encourage an additional 2-4 hours a week in the family home to conduct parent training. Home Sessions are conducted during times the child is not at the center. The Lazarus Project is closed to therapy approximately 10 days each year.

Research has shown that children whose parents are actively involved in their child's treatment have the potential to progress more rapidly. With this in mind, we also require at least one parent to participate in training with the Lead Therapist a minimum of 2 hours each week.

The Lazarus Team
As part of our focus on individualized treatment, a dedicated treatment team is established for each child. This team consists of the program supervisor, our lead therapist and  line therapists. Both the program supervisor and the senior lead therapist are on-site daily and manage all client programming, staff supervision and training.  All team members must pass a series of competencies to ensure that are participants receive the most effective therapy possible  Additionally, all members of the Lazarus Team are required to complete ongoing education and training throughout the year. Through community partnerships, we also have art therapy, music therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy available.

Children at The Lazarus Project also benefit from the expertise and involvement of our board members. Our board of directors currently consists of several parents of current and former clients and individuals who are active in the autism community.  The board works with our staff to manage the organization and provide fundraising support.

We are currently able to bill for Intensive Early Intervention/Behavior Therapy services (IEI/BT) through Medical Assistance (MA) and Tax Equity and Financial Responsibility Act (TEFRA) as well as a few private insurance policies.
